I have a hard time finding clothing that I like. I don't think it's because I'm too picky, but rather because I'm practical. But even then, I still want something that fits, not only my practicality, but my tall frame and simple style.
Free Country recently approached me asking if I would be interested in trying one of their jackets. They offered me one of four different styles and after looking over all of them online, I chose the Spectral Softshell in Black and trimmed in (I believe it's named) Whisper Blue. I thought that it had the most potential of meeting my needs and body type.
The only bad thing has been the weather. After receiving the jacket we had an unusual warm trend. Then, out of nowhere, we had a short cold spell most fondly referred to as Dogwood Winter.
So for about 5 days it was cool enough for me to actually need a jacket- and the Free Country was what I reached for. It kept me warm and protected in those brisk, windy, rainy Spring days, and I was extremely happy with the fit since many styles don't hit my waist right or aren't long enough in the sleeves. At a height of 5'7", I'm at the top of most regular fits and the bottomest bottom of tall fits, so I was relieved that the sleeves fit as well as they did. I have to admit that I had had my doubts about sleeve length in the beginning. I've had too many too short sleeves in my life, and I'm happy to report that Free Country doesn't make that list.
The jacket also has a detachable hood and a soft chin guard when it is zipped all the way. Both are awesome at keeping warmth in and cold out. The pockets are great too, and do exactly what pockets are meant to do. And that's not a smart ass remark. I've actually owned garments with pockets that didn't work like pockets..... More like wind sails or magical voids. The Free Country Spectral has pockets that keep your stuff in, even when they aren't zipped up (yes! zippered pockets!). 
I did expect the jacket to be lighter after watching the video Free Country has posted on their website. I don't know why except that I've had my hands on so many ultralight products that sometimes I expect everything to defy gravity and with practically nothing. BUT.... With that being said, I'm really satisfied that it's not. Typically I can make it through our winters with just a heavy jacket, but since the baby was born I haven't exactly fit into my pre-baby winter jacket *ahem, cough*.... So.... I'm mighty grateful to have a heavy jacket that will now not only for me but get me through an East Tennessee spring, fall and winter with barely any use of a coat. Not to mention it's still probably thin enough to fit happily underneath my coat if need be, but I'd venture to say a nice base layer and this jacket will have me sweating in no time!
